ACT II

Princess Jadwiga comes to Poland

Princess Jadwiga crosses Polish border in the mountains. Representatives of different statuses welcome Jadwiga at different places during her travel from the Polish border (Dukla) to Krakow, the capital of Poland. Polish songs, characteristic to particular parts of Polish regions, are heard in the background while Princess Jadwiga shows her happiness that she is so warmly welcome in Poland.

Princess Jadwiga in her chamber is preparing to the coronation. She prays for wisdom and strength to be a good King for Polish Nation.

Coronation. Bogurodzica song is heard before and after coronation song. Music culminated in the beautiful bells “song”. Jadwiga's beautiful aria when kneeling and praying before Wawel crucifies, asking for support in undertaken decision to merry Prince Jagiello. Aria shows pain of the young heart which devotes her love and decides to marry Jagiello in order to Christianize the last pagan country Lithuania. Jadwiga's aria shows uncertainty of the future life with a man from the country about which she heard not good news in Vienna.
